Dune Legacy 0.98.5 Released

I am excited to announce the release of Dune Legacy version 0.98.5 for Windows and macOS! This update brings major AI improvements, new gameplay features, and enhanced balance.

Major New Features in 0.98.5

  • AI Helper Support: Added AI helper functionality in skirmish mode - allows QuantBot to assist human players as a teammate
  • Comprehensive AI Overhaul: Completely rebalanced QuantBot behavior for better gameplay experience
  • Smart Resource Management: AI now builds appropriate numbers of harvesters and carryalls based on map size
  • Improved Campaign AI: Fixed attack logic and building behavior for more challenging campaign missions

AI Improvements (QuantBot)

  • Rebalanced harvester limits based on map size (32×32, 64×64, 128×128) and difficulty level
  • Adjusted military value thresholds for more aggressive AI behavior in Custom mode
  • Fixed campaign AI attack logic - now attacks after initial timer expires OR when attacked first
  • Campaign AI now prioritizes heavy units (tanks, launchers) over light units when Heavy Factory is available
  • Reduced credit hoarding - lowered threshold from 2000 to 1200 for Heavy Factory unit production
  • Improved carryall-to-harvester ratio from 1:5 to 1:3 for better harvester support
  • Conservative building logic: windtraps limited to initial map count, silos only built when storage is 90% full
  • Enhanced ornithopter attack logic with per-player threat assessment
  • Improved nuclear missile targeting for more strategic palace usage

Balance and Gameplay

  • Rocket turret production now requires Heavy Factory and Repair Yard
  • Difficulty-based rocket turret volume scaling (1/3 for Hard/Brutal, 1/4 for lower difficulties)
  • Enhanced building placement algorithm with map edge building support
  • Refineries now prioritize placement near spice deposits
  • Early game unit movement to prevent construction blocking
